The reactions to this game “Robot Unicorn Attack” maybe diffrent, but it somehow feels like a unique gaming experience. A little bit like a jazzed up Canabalt on steroids. Music, colors, dynamic and the more spacial leveldesign (compared to Canabalt) absolutely support the experience. (via)

Update: I sometimes experience problems with the controls ingame. Sometimes unicorn jumps, sometimes not. Then it was “y” instead of “z” doing the jump. Does anyone having the same problems? Please fix that!

Oh yes, we all love Cave Story. That’s for sure. This indiegame hit the internet several years ago, and those who tried the game (I am sure) can remember the first time, they fall into the game. Simply a remarkable game! Now, in this video, Pixel speaks about the creation process of Cave Story, that is also unique on its own and still inspiring. At the same time Nicalis producer Tyrone Rodriguez talks about the development process of the Wii Ware title. A happy meal for everyone who love to hear about game design – and as far as I know, the first “public appearance” of Pixel! Yay.

Hands-on technology and classic games – once again! But this work from Chloe Fan is really, really lovely. It is an reduced version of Super Mario, made playable on an 8×8 pixel-board. And if this wouldn’t be enough… nope: there is also the Super Mario melody available on this work – just plug the separate soundboard in. For me the most interesting aspect of this work is, that you are instantly able to recognize Mario – just by the meanwhile almost iconographic level-design of the very first Super Mario level. A fresh glitch, RealMyop made in realtime with a circuit-bend Megadrive and Sonic 2. If you want to remove a little dust from your French, than check out this video about the desive itself. Pretty elegant, would like to have this one to “arten up” playing classic games a little bit.

This year at the Cologne Commons, Conference and Festival for Creative Commons issues, I will care for a little bit of theory. We want to release an eReader, that covers various topics about “status quo” and “quo vadis” of Creative Commons, free content, small and large scale economies and community driven stuff, in order to provide new perspectives on content and the internet. Artist Ji Lee has made some very interesting works. It seems, that his interest is about making “invisible things visible” by adding something to the whole picture. One of this projects are the “parallel worlds”. Ceilings, unnoticed since the “modernism painted them white”, became “useless” and disappeared from our perception. Ji Lee reacted by creating Parallel World – miniture rooms – in that spaces. (via)

Freefarm released a Showreel of their music- and sounddesign works, from the last years. And this is a long list. Some beautiful stuff is among the works.
