Famous Label / Distribution Kompakt from Cologne prepared a great Japan-support compilation. 34 Tracks between contemplating electronic, floating ambient and straight minimal grooves. The mp3-version of the whole release cost 7.99 Euro. There are many options, where to buy, but Kompakt encourages to buy the release at Bandcamp or Other Music, because there are 100% of the proceedings going to the Red Cross Japan. You can read more about it at the Kompake-site of this release.
There is a new Humble Indie Bundle available, called “Frozenbyte“. This time the focus is more on 3d-game. Once again the price for the game is “pay what you want” and you get some great DRM-free games on Mac, Windows and Linux. It’s Trine, Shadowgrounds: Survivor, and Shadowgrounds. Additionally the Frozenbyte bundle includes a preorder for Splot and a prototype with source code for the game Jack Claw.
The HiScore Pixeleditor for iPhone and iPod Touch is finally available on the AppStore. It is a neat tool for “pixeling on the go” that not only has nice sound-effects, but also a cursor, for making pixel-precise drawing easy. You can simply clone and modify existing images, and send them per e-mail to anyone. The editor also got a simple color-picker, that let’s you easily pick colors from the canvas with a double-click. You can also define five hot-colors, that you can pick instantly. There are more features coming up, since the editor will be updated in an incremental fashion.
I lately came across this chip-music influenced releasepage at Bandcamp. It the Album “Surrender” from 4mat. Moody, progressive grooves over slightly blurred scenes, with arpeggiated wonderland textures. And sometimes on the border to solid techno or classic game music. The style reminds me on releases of the very netlabel Monotonik. A clear listening recommondation.
Finally here is a cut of the latest Amaze Games Culture Circle from Berlin. The topic is about Money and Games – and how they possibly can interact. A really interesting topic, in my opinion – not only because of the upcoming Gamification debate that is already happening. Have fun watching. If you have opinions on that, feel free to write a comment. Or to like it on Facebook or even Flattr.
Kosmoraum is the name of a special compilation, that is is tribute to the first man-flight into space, done by Yuri Gagarin, almost exactly 50 years ago. Four netlabels and two netaudio-streamingradios joined together for this release. Half of them from Germany, half from Russia. (Netlabels: Zimmer Records, Tonatom, Aventuel, CirclesandLines, Radios: Ambione, Klangboot).
Although this is a trippy electronica release with full length playing time, I would have wished a little more striving for musical uniqueness with the aim of making all time classic netaudio release. My favourite track so far is “Treibstoffmasse” from “Sternenspringer”.
On the other hand I ask myself, why so many netlabels don’t take opportunities like that – to join together with special releases in order to reach a broader audience than doing just simple homework!
