I am not always sure about mash-ups and user generated 3d-shooter contributions, but this here is worth to be mentioned. It is a Counterstrike-level, based upon paintings from Vincent van Gogh. You will for example identify the piece “The Starry Night“. Textures, elements and compositional designs were derived from Van Gogh’s paintings. The small room with the interior design or the church at the ent of the video really got me a shiver down the spine. The mod is called “de_vangogh” and is available for download here: www.joe.to/~nipper/cs.html
This here is a very beautiful video about a man, a woman and a fictional device, that is able to show the mans emotion. The shortmovie is really called [] [] [] [] and was made by Eric Lerner and he says about the movie, that it is an “unofficial music video for a track I love”. How beautiful. The music by the way is really excellent “Gong” from Sigur Ros.

The Buddha Machine is a small audio-gear, some kind of “multipurpose ambient device”. It is a small portable device with batteries, a speaker and some build-in audioloops. You can select the soothing loops and they keep on playing. With two controllers you can select the volume and (this is the special part) the pitch of the loop. Nothing really special, compared to the things you can do with audio-software, but this device is very charming and inviting to some nice uses.
This is how it goes:
Oh, what a great game! Rock Boshers has everything, that you eventually miss on modern games: a slowly unfolding story, easy controls, fine graphics (if you love pixel) and a very charming retro spectrum ZX style. I don’t know exactly why, but the game hooked me from the very first second.
The loader of the game simulates an original “Tape loader” of the Spectrum ZX. You need to wait over five minutes to load the game (or just skip it with the “turboloader”). The game was originally made for the Tigsource Demake Competition (Tigsource currently down, why?). But in order to enhance the programming skills with Gamemaker, the developer Dugan/Mooloo decided to further develop the game and make it grow. If future games turn out like this, than we have much fun to expect.
About the story I quote from Indiegames:
The story is about a gentleman who was lured to work at a distant red planet in our solar system with promises of untold riches, only to end up being enslaved by the evil empire which offered the jobs in the first place. With the help of other miners caught in the same fate, he sets out to overthrow his captors and free the others from a life of servitude and injustice.
Well, excuse me now. I’ve got to play Rock Boshers again. Anything else? Ah, sure. The download, click here.
A group called Plan-K-Troniks made a wicked upgrade on the Gakken SX-150. The “Plama Gakken” uses a stylo on a plasma-screen to generate sound. Didn’t I promised you, that this amazing instrument will get bend? Thumbs up for the very organic feel of that one, it’s like “Get below the surface, find the Plasma Gakken and solve the riddle to get a secret scroll“. Thumbs down for… well, it sounds like a Geiger counter!
For the people who want to order one SX-150. The colleagues from the Makezine have some of them in stock.
I lately had the chance to talk a little bit with Thiemo Eddiks. He is the main-operator of an interesting project in Oldenburg. The Computermuseum Oldenburg is a private collection of old computers from 1977 to 1990. The special feature of this museum is, that the computers are “hands-on ready” – you are allowed to play with them the and run old software on them! So if you are up there in the north of Germany, you will like to take a visit!
Screenshot Nintendo8 with the game 1999 – Hore, Mitakotoka! Seikimatsu.
Nintendo8 found a way to play old games from the 8-bit era right in the browser. They use a Java-applet to startup emulation-software and the only thing you have to do is, going on the website, choose one of the system and one of the games from the archive they offer. There is not only Nintendo NES emulator availalble, but also games and emulators from Master System, C64, Gameboy and DOS.
And now comes the most interesting part: The games they offer on the site are excellent preselected. Of course they offer the classics like Contra, Rainbow Islands and Super Mario. But they put also lots of rare, obscure, but highly recommended fun games on the site. You can browse them by genre with screenshots. One click away from playing. Get ready to explore unknown digital entertainment areas. Get ready to play!
Just to show you two examples, some recommendations: Millipede and Rollerball.
